Do you LOVE nature? Do you worry about climate change and species going extinct? Do you feel it is impossible for one person to make a difference? These questions come up all the time, especially in terms of making a difference. The world is so vast and at times you can feel disconnected from it and the people, animals and plants which live in it. We are all interconnected. The challenge is to move forward and protect the planet.. and we need YOU!
There are organizations world wide built on the premise that YOU can make a difference and they are doing it everyday. Big organizations like the Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy are constantly on the move across the globe to help the environment, plants, animals and people. But what about the little guy? How can YOU make a difference?
- Donate money to causes which are dear to your heart
- Volunteer in your community where you can plant trees or help with rehabilitation of animals
- Buy Products which promote sustainability
- Reduce waste and toxic chemical use
- Boycott companies which are known for polluting or destroying the environment
The list can go on but I have another twist on it:
You can support small organizations which work in conservation, education and rehabilitation by visiting them!
I am often leery of donating money to organizations, especially the big ones. Where does the money go? How do you know you are making a difference? I prefer to see it first hand by visiting small organizations. The special charm for this kind of visit is you get to see first hand, up close and personal what an organization is about. Your entrance fee helps support much needed supplies, food and medicine.
I have had the pleasure to form long term friendships with people in Costa Rica for over 30 years. One fantastic group of people, headed by Leslie Howle is the Toucan Rescue Ranch. She started out with rescuing and rehabilitating toucans. This one act of kindness has turned into a lifetime of conservation and rehabilitation.
The Toucan Rescue Ranch’s (TRR) mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release Costa Rican wildlife. TRR works with a model that focuses on conservation, education, and research to ensure a brighter tomorrow for native wildlife. TRR focuses on the care, rehabilitation, and release of national wildlife. We receive and care for confiscated, sick, and injured animals from government agencies. TRR works closely with the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica (MINAE) who rescues wildlife and brings them to their facility. They provide sanctuary while giving premier medical treatment, rehabilitation, and eventual release into its natural environment.
You can participate in this wonderful organization by visiting them. You get to see up close and personal the fantastic job they do with not only toucans but….. macaws, sloths, eagles, tropical owls, river otters. oncilas and more! As an artist and photographer you are contributing financially and getting the rare the opportunity to photograph and draw these animals. This is not open to the general public. It is made possible by the generosity of TRR and my long term relationship with them to allow us this unique privilege. This is a great visit of a lifetime to enrich your skills and help with them with much needed funding.
The Toucan Rescue Ranch is just one of the fabulous locations we visit to learn, draw, paint and photograph which promotes conservation, sustainability, rehabilitation and MORE! I have hand picked other private organizations for us to visit. WE would LOVE to have you join us! We have only a few spots available and registration will shut down on November 15, 2019.
