Journey to Peru: An Unforgettable Adventure
This past July, I had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Peru with a wonderful group of like-minded travelers. My first introduction to Peru was back in 2017 on a scouting trip with Holbrook Travel, where I was completely mesmerized by the people, cultures, artisans, ecosystems, and history. From the bustling coast of Lima to the mystical mountains of Cusco and Machu Picchu, and deep into the Amazon at Iquitos, Peru captured my heart.
Then the pandemic hit, and everything paused. Now, with travel in full swing again, I knew it was time to return. After three consecutive sold-out Costa Rica trips, I felt ready to offer something new and adventurous. This summer, we did just that—and Peru did not disappoint!
A Country of Contrasts
Traveling through Peru means embracing variety. We flew on small in-country planes, took winding bus rides, scenic train journeys, and peaceful boat trips. We went from sea level to over 11,000 feet and back again—experiencing climates that ranged from warm and sunny to chilly mountain air to hot, steamy rainforest.
Everywhere we went, we were immersed in the richness of Peru. With three expert guides leading us through their regions, we learned about the ancient Incas, their rituals, and their artistry. We heard traditional music, watched weavers at their looms, and discovered the secrets of natural dyeing and spinning. We hand-fed llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas, fished for piranhas, and even walked high above the rainforest on a treetop canopy. Each day brought something new—it would take a book to capture it all!
Inspiration Everywhere
One thing we didn’t do? Draw and paint. The schedule was so full and engaging that there simply wasn’t time. Instead, we turned to our cameras, capturing thousands of moments of inspiration to take home. I personally took more than 2,000 photos—images that will serve as the foundation for my next series of artworks.
This trip wasn’t just about sightseeing. It was about exploration, enlightenment, and connection. Peru offers an energy that is life-changing, whether you’re an artist, photographer, or simply an adventurous traveler. It’s a true bucket-list experience that stays with you forever.
