This is not a traditional plein air painting workshop. Instead, the journey emphasizes observation, photography, sketching, color studies, and gathering inspiration from nature that can later be developed into finished artwork in your own creative practice.
Work in whatever way feels comfortable — whether that means photography, loose sketches, watercolor studies, written notes, or simply quiet observation.

Itinerary
Day 1
Upon arrival in Cali, Colombia’s vibrant cultural capital, transfer to The Sonesta hotel, and settle in after your journey. Depending on arrival times, gather with fellow travelers for a welcome dinner and introduction to the adventure ahead.
Day 2
Coffee Country, Raptors & Tinamú Reserve (B,L,D)
After a late breakfast, visit the San Isidro Raptor Rehabilitation Center to learn about the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of birds of prey. Continue to Hacienda Venecia for a bean-to-cup coffee experience and discover their fascinating stingless bee pollinator project. Enjoy lunch, time for photography and sketching, and explore a beautiful collection of botanical artwork by Francisco Javier Matiz. Later, continue to Tinamú Nature Reserve near Manizales.
Day 3
Orchids, Hummingbirds & Conservation (B,L,D)
Begin the day exploring Tinamú Reserve to observe tropical birds and hummingbirds at feeders throughout the property. Afterward, visit Finca Romelia, home to over 850 orchid species and fascinating carnivorous plants. Enjoy lunch, garden exploration, photography, and time for drawing. In the evening, learn about the conservation history of the region and the impact of bird tourism on local communities.
Day 4
Owl’s Watch Cloud Forest Reserve
Travel to Owl’s Watch at Rio Blanco Reserve, a highly regarded eco-retreat near Manizales designed for birdwatchers, photographers, artists, and nature lovers. Nestled within an 85-hectare cloud forest reserve, Owl’s Watch offers access to one of the world’s richest biodiversity hotspots for endemic bird species. The reserve features beautiful forest trails, photography hides, scenic overlooks, and intimate opportunities to experience Colombia’s extraordinary cloud forest wildlife up close.
Day 5
Butterfly Conservation & Cauca Valley (B,L,D)
Depart for the Cauca Valley with a visit to Bioparque Bonita Farm, a family-owned bio-reserve featuring tropical gardens and a butterfly house. Learn about butterfly life cycles, pollinators, and conservation while gathering photographic reference material and inspiration. Continue to Araucana Lodge, surrounded by lush tropical habitats and colorful birdlife.
Day 6
Hummingbird Paradise (B,L,D
Spend the morning at Finca Alejandría, one of Colombia’s premier hummingbird destinations, where up to 32 species may be observed and photographed. The afternoon offers free time at Araucana Lodge for sketching, photography, relaxing, or simply enjoying the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Day 7
Dona Dora Feeders & Tropical Birdlife (B,L,D)
Visit Dona Dora Feeders for bird photography, nature walks, and opportunities to observe tanagers, toucanets, finches, and many other tropical species up close. Enjoy a traditional home-cooked lunch and time for photography, sketching, and creative inspiration before returning to the lodge.
Day 8
Cali Botanical Garden & Colombian Culture (B,L,D)
Travel to Cali and explore the , a beautiful natural oasis featuring tropical plants and panoramic views from the observation tower. This botanical garden has exotic tropical plants and beautiful walking trails full of inspiration. Later, experience the vibrant culture of Cali with visits to historic San Antonio and the Salsa Museum.
Day 9
Reserva Natural Madhu & Farewell Celebration (B,L,D)
After breakfast, enjoy a full day exploring Reserva Natural Madhu, learning about plants, birds, bees, and sustainable conservation practices. Return to Cali later in the afternoon and visit the famous El Gato del Río sculpture park before gathering for a special farewell dinner.
Day 10
Farewell to Colombia (B)
Transfer to the airport for flights home, bringing home unforgettable memories, photographs, creative inspiration, and a deeper connection to the beauty and biodiversity of Colombia.
