Good drawing skills are essential if you want to depict nature realistically. I can not stress this enough. Too often artists solely work from photographs. Unless they have a good foundation of drawing skills the finished work of art falls short. Adding paint never covers up a drawing error, it usually makes it worse. Understanding how to see in 3 dimension and translate what you see to a 2 dimensional surface takes time, patience and skill. Here is a video I made of a how to create an armature drawing of an artichoke. I hope that you find this useful. Great lesson, as always, Mindy! Thanks.
Thanks Virginia for stopping by my blog and watching the video!
Love it. I wish you were back in NY teaching classes.
Thanks Jenine….. as the winter rolls around the corner there is no way you will see me with a down jacket on! Glad to hear from you. Keep creating awesome art!

Mindy,
You have no idea how this came at the perfect time for me. Marvelous. I just started drawing my pumpkin last night. I know that I have the size of my pumpkin down good, I took measurements, etc. Now I will be able to see it come to life in 3 dimensions on a 2 dimensional painting. Thank you and thank Debbie C. for posting this.
Hi Kateri,
Thanks for visiting my website and leaving a comment. I hope your pumpkin looks super 3 dimensional! Good luck and I hope you post it on Facebook for all to see! Happy painting,
Mindy
Mindy,
I did the 3 dimensional drawing tonight of my pumpkin. I would like to send you a photo of it and have you critique it for me if that is at all possible. I live in Michigan. Am I seeing right that you live in The Villages, Florida???
Mindy,
This was very helpful! I hope you will do more videos.
